Augustinian friary (CW008-045001-) founded in 1314 by Simon Humbard and Hugh Talun, possibly on site of and incorporating pre-Norman monastery. Recorded in 1542 as consisting of church, belfry, dormitory, hall, three chambers and kitchen. Levelled in early eighteenth century. Head of solid-wheeled cross with mouldings and projecting arms (Wth 1.1m), decorated with step and interlace patterns, and holy well (CW008-045009-) surmounted by cross head near S bank of river, within graveyard. (Bradley 1989, 71-2) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993).
